The Mercedes-Benz W 113 or 280SL was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. It was produced from 1963 through 1971 and it replaced both the legendary 300 SL and the 190 SL. Of the 48,912 280 SL’s produced, 19,440 were sold in the US.

All models were equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The bonnet, trunk lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. The comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes and radial tires gave the 280SL superb handling for the era.

The 280 SL was called the “Pagoda” because the optional removable hardtop had a thin, slightly concave center panel bracketed on both sides by two thick pillars. It was designed to fortify the roof but proved to be an attractive styling feature.

Offered is a very desirable Mercedes-Benz 280SL “Pagoda” from a Virginia Collector. This car has been stored and maintained in museum quality in a collector’s garage since its purchase 3 years ago. It is a great example of Mercedes-Benz’s last completely hand-made car.
